PAST: UpSkill 901: Workforce Summit

DAY 1 OVERVIEW

On October 22, representatives from educational institutions, workforce-related service providers, employers, entrepreneurs, elected officials, philanthropic and community leaders will come together to hear from keynote speaker Mark Muro Senior Fellow and Policy Director, Metropolitan Policy Program at the Brookings Institution and author of Automation and Artificial Intelligence: How Machines Are Affecting People and Places.

In addition, attendees will participate in facilitated breakout sessions designed to generate action plans to accelerate training and skill output for the regional workforce.

Come and learn about the workforce of the future and learn how you can help drive change in our community.

 
DAY 2 OVERVIEW

The UpSkill 901 Career Fair will take place on October 30 at the Pipkin Building in Tiger Lane. The UpSkill 901 Career Fair will feature:

  • Employment opportunities for workers of all skill and experience levels from 50+ local employers

  • Clinics to help job seekers with specialized service like gaining certificate of employability and expungement service

  • Onsite registration for programs from America’s Jobs Center, social services and other training providers

  • Enhancement services for job seekers including resume assistance, Dress for Success, haircuts and more.

Over 60 companies with open positions and currently hiring will participate including:

  • AB Mauri

  • American Commercial Barge Line

  • AARP

  • Bank of America

  • Blues City Brewery LLC

  • Healthlink Europe & International

  • Kruger Products

  • Naturplex LLC Pharmaceuticals

  • Shelby County Schools

  • Smith & Nephew

  • Titan Manufacturing & Distribution

  • View, Inc.

  • And more!

The day will also feature service providers and community based organizations providing clinics and onsite registration for job seekers. Some of those programs will include:

  • Amnesty Program
     - Expungement
     - Driver’s License

  • Federal Bonding

  • Entrepreneurship

ON-SITE REGISTRATION FOR PROGRAMS

  • American Job Centers

  • Training Programs

  • Social Services (Veterans, Dept. of Human Services, AARP, etc.)

INDIVIDUAL ENHANCEMENT
